The hydrogen testing ground is being established in the Sakhalin Region and consists of a base site at the Special Design Bureau for Automation of Marine Research Equipment Design Bureau of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and experimental sites throughout the region.

The purpose of the testing ground is to conduct full-scale testing and validation of hydrogen equipment at experimental sites linked to the existing infrastructure.

Based on the testing results, technical or technological deficiencies in the equipment will be corrected, or dead-end solutions in equipment manufacturing technologies will be identified.

Furthermore, the technological solutions and equipment that successfully pass the tests will be sent for scaling and replication in other regions of Russia. The project is being implemented by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the Government of the Sakhalin Region, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Special Design Bureau for Automation of Marine Research Equipment Design Bureau of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, PJSC RusHydro, and Sakhalin State University.
